Doing Business With Daimler
A clear global strategy for determining Daimler's purchasing decisions is the starting point for the global purchasing process, as represented above.
As the global interface for the Daimler supplier network, Corporate Procurement Services (CPS) monitors and communicates the performance results of all suppliers. These results form the basis for decisions regarding existing supplier relationships and future business. Responses can include the recognition of outstanding global supplier contributions through consideration of those suppliers for further business and as well through the Global Supplier Award Program, assistance through sharing processes and knowledge for high-potential but under-performing suppliers, or even resourcing considerations where no potential for improvement is seen.
One method Daimler employs is the External Balanced Scorecard (EBSC). Within the EBSC, the value drivers of quality, technology, cost and supply are translated into a set of measurable criteria for supplier's products and services.
By communicating their achievements relative to their competitors, the EBSC is effectively used to evaluate the supplier's performance. Perhaps most importantly, the evaluation data is then utilized to suggest areas for further improvement.
Daimler is open to establishing business relations with companies that are not currently Daimler suppliers. Potential "new" suppliers who meet the Daimler's expectations will be considered for new business.
The Global Performance Based Cooperation model drives the entire procurement process.
